Dr. Kasfir holds a PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies (London) and is an historian of African art, particularly in Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda. Her research is in two areas, the ritual arts of the Benue River valley (Nigeria) 1850- 1980, and postcolonial art practice and patronage in the globalized art and souvenir market. She edited West African Masks and Cultural Systems (Musée Royal de l'Afrique Centrale, Tervuren) and is the author of Contemporary African Art (Thames and Hudson, London) and African Art and the Colonial Encounter (Indiana University Press). Currently she is compiling a book of essays with Till Förster on the African artist and the workshop and working on two major exhibitions scheduled to open in 2010 and 2011.
Candyce received her Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of South Carolina. She has worked at Emory since 2007.
