Jessica Winegar is an assistant professor of sociocultural anthropology at Temple University in Philadelphia. Her interests include visual and material culture, the culture industries, nationalism, neoliberalism, social class, and gender in the Middle East and North Africa. She is the author of numerous articles on art and culture and the award-winning book Creative Reckonings: The Politics of Art and Culture in Contemporary Egypt (Stanford University Press, 2006). She is also a founding member of the Task Force on Middle East Anthropology, dedicated to increasing the relevance, visibility, and application of anthropological perspectives on the region.
